moving part one

I'm all moved in! Not to my own apartment but to D's apartment, where I'll be staying for two weeks between the end of my old lease and the start of my new one. I'm currently sprawled out on an amazingly comfortable queen-size bed (belonging to D's roommate, who is gone for the summer), idly contemplating going to sleep early.
I did absolutely nothing this afternoon. Skimmed the news and the Twitter feed, talked to D about pretty much everything, drank a lot of tea, read a few chapters of The Wind-Up Girl. It was a well-deserved break from the absolute insanity of the past week. Ever since I got back on Monday from my vacation to Seattle, it's like absolutely everything was happening at once.
I arrived in C-U at 2am Monday night/Tuesday morning, had a meeting with my advisor and her older student P at noon on Tuesday, and have suddenly been added to a paper that we plan to resubmit for publication in the very near future! Having a concrete, attainable goal at last is highly motivating, so I've been working furiously on that, despite the frustration of attempting to run other people's code etc.
I was also packing frantically, never a pleasant experience. I just went through this whole uprooting process last year and it hasn't improved. But I managed to pack everything compactly enough that we did the whole process today in an hour: D, P, R & R showed up at 11am with their cars, we loaded everything up, drove the couple of blocks to D's place, carried it all up to the third floor, and were done at noon. So that's a relief! I have to do this all over again in two weeks (plus buy furniture) but for now I have a bit of a respite.
Best of all, my toilet decided to start leaking on Thursday. I woke up to a large puddle of water on the bathroom floor but it took me all day to get my landlord to take me seriously and come out with a plumber. Unfortunately, by the time they figured out that it was the toilet bowl itself and not the seal causing the leak, it was too late to go get a new toilet somewhere. So I had to wake up in the middle of the night to mop the floor again to forestall wet carpet issues. Doubly frustrating that this had to happen in the last few days of living in that apartment. Here's hoping my next one has fewer issues with plumbing and appliances...
I'm absolutely exhausted now and will probably sleep soon, but I'm looking forward to a productive and less stressful week!
